According to a podcast interview, Freddie had medical issues and back surgery during S3, so that’s why Kanan’s not as featured, to give him time to recover

ah, i was wondering if there was a behind the scenes reason for it!! that makes sense

actually i was thinking it almost worked very nicely because hera’s absence from ‘through imperial eyes’ coupled with kanan’s absence from ‘secret cargo’ and ‘double agent droid’ made sabine missing feel a lot less weird since she wasnt the only one haha.  then ‘twin suns’ we’ve got MUCH more important things happening than to worry about her and ‘zero hour part 1′ …..the plot demanded it 😛
