I have to disagree that Sabine is a lesbian. For one, she shows no inkling of romantic attachment for Ketsu whatsoever in “Blood Sisters”. If anything, it’s resentment for abandoning her. Plus, that line about “you love to make things go boom” can have any number of meetings, not just sexual or romantic. Two, colorful hair or being artistic does not a lesbian make. I know plenty of girls who color their hair, and while some are interested in the same sex, others aren’t.

@greywolf93 okay look man…… im not out here declaring any interpretation i have word of god Canon or anything okay?  i’m just having fun and reading sabine as gay is about as valid as any other interpretation and ONE THAT MAKES ME HAPPY.  the show doesn’t directly touch on her romantic interests AT ALL so it’s pretty much fair game.  and even if it did?? sometimes i just decide a character is gay (in my head) because i like them with no deeper reasoning behind it!

and yes, textually there’s nothing between sabine and ketsu just like there’s nothing between sabine and ezra.  but as fan’s we can still read that kinda stuff into their relationships!  subtext man!! it’s great!!  i mean, HELL, 99% of the time rebels relegates KANAN AND HERA’S relationship to something that’s not explicitly acknowledged beyond subtext, even though everyone knows they’re in love since FOREVER.  intentional subtext like kanan and hera or not, it’s still fun to take stuff from the text that isn’t directly stated.

for me “the newest recruit” forces of destiny episode (+ its two book adaptations) is the most telling, if you want to read Something More into sabine and ketsu’s relationship.  with stuff like this, it’s hard not to!  i know they’re meant to be “friends” and “like sisters,” but if you’re looking at things with and open mind, it’s really easy to imagine there’s something more going on underneath.  and uh, star wars doesn’t have A TON of lgbt characters (for trans characters, basically nothing :’c) so for fans who want that like i do?? we’re gona read into whatever subtext is there or again, just straight up make stuff up because IT’S ENJOYABLE!

and as far as how sabine’s looks.. TRUST ME nobody is saying someone walked into lucasfilm hq one day and was like “HMMMM what should i do to make this new character for rebels look cool and unique? AHA! I KNOW!! let’s give her a Lesbian Haircut!! PERFECT!”  obviously that’s silly 😛

but “looking gay” is A Real Thing.  i make my own conscious decisions about my appearance in part to “look gay,” so do tons of people i know.  there’s a whole sub-culture of lesbian fashion.  doesn’t mean every girl who’s ever worn doc martens and a flannel shirt and cut her hair short is a lesbian LMAO.  but some of us are gona read those things into fictional characters’ style choices because it resonates with us!  and again, it’s fun!

if it’s not something you “Get” or you’re not interested in it, your best bet is really just to ignore it!  people might talk a big game and say “oh this or that thing is CANON” but it’s seriously just hyperbole and once again HAVING FUN.  truuuuuuust me when i say we KNOW when a character is actually “meant” to be lgbt by the powers that be and when it’s just in our heads.  what people DON’T appreciate is being told how wrong we are by others as if we’re not aware.  it’s just unnecessary raining on something innocent and fun for no real reason!

anyways i KNOW you probably weren’t looking for all this (CAN YOU TELL I DON’T KNOW WHEN TO SHUT UP?), but bottom line a good approach is just the mark hamill approach, which is just that viewers can interpret things how they’d like.  there are probably some star wars things were meant to be viciously debated for decades buuuuut.  i don’t think this needs to be one of them 🙂
