The really fucked up part is that we hear Palpatine using Kanan’s voice right after before he’s revealed in the same portal and the portal has a Sith symbol on it. The image of Kanan in the flames was just an illusion to trick Ezra into pulling Sidious through, there never was a chance to save him.

yeah 😦 ik its such a classic hero resisting temptation evil disguised as good thing but it sucks big time :c

Also don’t forget old Palpy tried the same trick again using Ezra’s parents in the finale.  Twice he’d overestimated Ezra’s fallibility to give into temptation.

yeah 😦 makes you wonder if palpatine hadnt forced ezra to resist that temptation and give up one of the people he loves most, would ezra have been able to overcome the allure of being with his parents again? palps screwed up by playing his trump card too early then trying to use it again

though in fairness to sheev, getting control of world between worlds WAS the ultimate goal, so he really played that card at the right time. it just backfired on him cos it meant ezra was already wise to it when he played it a second time.
