OH HELLO HELMETLESS PHASMA ILLUSTRATION IN SW:WOTG 👀
Looking forward to the shitshow to come, since I decided to edit Taka Jamoreesa’s Wookiepedia page to say they are non-binary, rather that they have “an unspecified gender.”
Sadly Eleodie Maracavanya’s page is protected, so I as a new user can not do the same for zher page (and therefore really establish Non-Binary Individuals as a category on Wookiepedia), or specify that Wendig has said that zhe is human so zhe should not be classified under “unspecified species” either. If anyone reading this is an established user who can correct this absurdly transphobic error on Eleodie’s page, it would be really appreciated.
here’s where we stand on eleodie after my edits

@zareleonis have you done enough edits to edit protected pages? Cause I know you’ve done similar things for Sinjir and Dec’s pages, and you’ve also just done general work on expanding the jtr pages.
i actually saw your edit and jumped in wrote up a behind the scenes section just now that explains their gender + pronouns and also gives a summary of the controversy regarding taka’s (incorrect) pronouns in foreign translations! very heavily sourced, i might add.
as far as whether you could face pushback, i think the only reason that could be used to justify is that it’s not explicitly stated in the books. also, wookieepedia has been leaning away from using statements on social media as sources for in universe canon facts (so i’m not sure putting down human for eleodie would stick until it’s in a published source). however, what IS irrefutably canon and in canon sources is their pronouns. just as we take the use of He to denote male and She to denote female, to discount the conscious use of exclusively They, Zhe, etc pronouns as a clear indicator that a character is non-binary would be an inappropriate double standard and to ignore it would require a baseless and Not-Canonically-Supported assumption that the use of such pronouns denotes something different than what it typically does in the real world.
i don’t think ignoring this holds up, either in terms of what is morally right and how wookieepedia approaches canon. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
if you need help editing or with citations i have decent know-how. it’s a shitload of trial and error and searching to figure out to do things right lol.
Thank you so much, and thank you as well for the clarification about why wookiepedia lists Eleodie as being from an unspecified species!
Aaaah although re: listing a specific gender, check the talk page. this i think does add up – the idea that we don’t know if there is an in-universe term for non-binary, like how coffee is caf and bathroom is refresher. i’m not sure there’s much arguing against that tbh 🤔 but the unspecified gender category is 100% out of sorts because its not that we don’t know it, but that we don’t know the in universe term. abstaining from assuming the unconfirmed is one thing, but taking that to the point that we state something that simply isn’t true is wholly another. at the very least, it should definitely be discussed in behind the scenes section.
oh and if you wanna expand the content of their pages definitely go for. just make sure to cite properly (easy, since taka’s only in one book eleodie in two), check the layout guide for how to set up the sections and remember to put in links to other pages, but only once each. capitalization is important or the links won’t work. i can look over anything formatting stuff.
