maul asking for mercy at the end with sidious always gets me, because one of the things he says to savage, when he finds him on lotho minor is “i don’t ask for mercy, master. mercy is a lie, a delusion of the weak to think themselves strong. i ask not for mercy”
i don’t really know how to put my thoughts on it into words, but it shows vulnerability and just gets across how terrified of sidious he is, and how broken he is at that point, to ask him for mercy… it’s desperate. there’s also something about the fact that he’s abandoning his teachings, right in his face too. the fact maul would probably consider it an act of weakness to ask, and how it does come across as helpless, but knowing how he was treated (abused) by sidious, it was actually brave to defy him here and ask for mercy.
when i first watched brothers, i thought it was so sad that these are the things maul rambles about in the state he’s in. and then when he does ask for mercy at the end of the lawless, it.. hurts
