so it looks like tales from vader’s castle 1 will be lina grad story with a kanan+hera flashback story told by crater, relaying a story CHOPPER told him

so lina won’t meet kanan, but it sounds like she and crater know chopper, and by extension HERA – no doubt through both being in the rebel alliance. and that makes me REALLY HAPPY.

i would LOVE for lina to meet BOTH of them and the rest of the gang – ESPECIALLY EZRA. lina and milo lived with the bridgers for awhile after their parents were kidnapped by the empire. i bet she’s got some great/embarrassing ezra baby stories šŸ˜œ

but more important for ezra to know someone who knew his parents. i think it would mean a lot to ezra to know his parents were the kind of people to take in a couple of 9 and 7 year old kids whose parents were kidnapped by the empire

What just happened? You were supposed to exit with Zeb. Youā€™re lucky every stormtrooper in the prison doesnā€™t know weā€™re here.

Seeing the first gif a little slower, itā€™s interesting that Ezra reacts in surprise to Kananā€™s annoyance, then almost immediately reacts as if heā€™s expecting to be hit. Itā€™s only when he winces and raises his arm that Kanan backs off a bit.

I mean, this shouldnā€™t be that surprising. The streets can be a nasty place (imperially occupied ones even more so), and Ezra is just a kid, only recently taken off them. Still, the fact that the animators included this reaction makes it uncomfortably canonā€¦

If you notice, Ezra doesnā€™t lower his arm until Kanan crosses his.

At this point of the show, Ezra has so many walls up. No one in the crew really knows anything about his past, he continues to think that they will abandon him, and heā€™s ready to leave at a momentā€™s notice.

Ezra hasnā€™t yet become ā€˜un-numbā€™ and out of survival mode. He doesnā€™t ā€œfeel aliveā€ yet, as he puts it later. At this point, heā€™s still trying to go through the motions to survive.

I feel itā€™s after this episode that the walls start to come down. (Though not all at once. Healing takes time.) Itā€™s because Kanan finally decides he needs to take his job as Master seriously and he and Ezra begin to really connect. Up until then, I think Ezra still felt he was still on his own and all his recent good fortune could just disapear. When Kanan starts really being his Jedi Master/teacher/caregiver, Ezra can finally begin letting his guard down.

He also flinches in the pilot when Kallus reaches for him and earlier in ā€œRise of the Old Mastersā€ atop the Ghost with Kanan!Ā  It seems like itā€™s an ingrained and involuntary flight response to perceived attacks.

Itā€™s amazing to go back and rewatch the beginning of the series and spot all these little nuances in expressions and body language. You notice how nervous and guarded Ezra is.
