What just happened? You were supposed to exit with Zeb. You’re lucky every stormtrooper in the prison doesn’t know we’re here.

Seeing the first gif a little slower, it’s interesting that Ezra reacts in surprise to Kanan’s annoyance, then almost immediately reacts as if he’s expecting to be hit. It’s only when he winces and raises his arm that Kanan backs off a bit.

I mean, this shouldn’t be that surprising. The streets can be a nasty place (imperially occupied ones even more so), and Ezra is just a kid, only recently taken off them. Still, the fact that the animators included this reaction makes it uncomfortably canon…

If you notice, Ezra doesn’t lower his arm until Kanan crosses his.

Ugh…. both of you are so right. @lessattitudemorealtitude @fireynovacat

At this point of the show, Ezra has so many walls up. No one in the crew really knows anything about his past, he continues to think that they will abandon him, and he’s ready to leave at a moment’s notice.

Ezra hasn’t yet become ā€˜un-numb’ and out of survival mode. He doesn’t ā€œfeel aliveā€ yet, as he puts it later. At this point, he’s still trying to go through the motions to survive.

I feel it’s after this episode that the walls start to come down. (Though not all at once. Healing takes time.) It’s because Kanan finally decides he needs to take his job as Master seriously and he and Ezra begin to really connect. Up until then, I think Ezra still felt he was still on his own and all his recent good fortune could just disapear. When Kanan starts really being his Jedi Master/teacher/caregiver, Ezra can finally begin letting his guard down.

:((( this is so horrible – though it has been a long time coming

what really gets me is ezra asks KANAN what did they do, when kanan has no way of knowing any more than he does. can’t even see what’s disturbing ezra so much, for that matter!!! i just think it’s so cute that without even thinking, ezra looks to kanan for answers.

when ezra has his vision that old jho is in trouble kanan tells him ā€œwe’ve talked about this ezra. it’s just your anxiety about lothal.ā€

WHICH MEANS ezra has nightmares about lothal regularly and kanan has helped him through them 😿 and that ezra has anxiety after all he’s been through (not surprising :c)

what gets things REALLY interesting is that there’s faint barking and howling and growling in the background while ezra sees this vision/echo. if ezra saw or heard anything else, it’s overshadowed by his worries for old jho and ryder. BUT the implication there could be more to his dream, some vague hint to the future, that ezra didn’t even comprehend is pretty neat.

I just finished theĀ A New Dawn tie in novel for Rebels so now it’s time to queue up a bunch of screencaps bc Star Wars continues to be ridiculous no matter the medium.Ā Ā

@rainglazed you kidding? THE GREAT KANAN JARRUS HAS NO CHILL AND HAS NO FILTER! šŸ˜šŸ‘šŸ¼ which makes sense, giving the life he lived/suffered. Kanan in A New Dawn is 100000% done with the galaxy, until he meets Hera and then he meets his Space Son Year’s later.

Also I am also reading A New Dawn (I’m on chapter 7) and I love this side of Kanan so far šŸ˜‚ he can be such a dick but I find it hilarious and understandable seeing how much he’s lost and been through.

Listen L I S T E N I started screencapping every time Kanan was all ā€œohoho I don’t help people I’m a loner and a tough dudeĀ thatĀ only looks after myselfā€ before promptly going to Help With A Thing and now my screencaps are just a solid block of text scrolling down.Ā Ā

@rainglazed Kanan trying very hard to convince himself that he doesn’t need anyone, because in his mind, he’s better off alone seeing as who he is underneath all the flirting and stubbornness, is a Jedi and he doesn’t want that status to come back and hurt others.

Which in reality Kanan is the one person that needs to be surrounded by people. Being isolated only makes him worse and makes his thoughts even darker of survivors guilt. That’s another thing he and Ezra have in common.

They both need to be enveloped, encased by people that love them or else they can’t function properly. Which makes their bond as father and son so much stronger because they are literally connected and can give each other that love and stability in a regular basis.
