its neat how trials of the darksaber is 100% sabine focused no question but it still manages to say a LOT about kanan, ezra AND hera’s characters in the process. that’s good writing 🙂

@zareleonis Agreed. One of the many reasons why people love Trails of the Darksaber even if Sabine isn’t their favorite character is the writing in the entirety of the episode:

It manages to show Sabine’s past and reluctance to want to be apart of Mandalore again, her fear of seeing her family again, the family that abandoned her for the Empire.

It manages to show Kanan’s care and love for Sabine, fearing, not wanting her to get hurt by the Darksaber because she wasn’t ready and it also shows just how natural his bond with Ezra was/is (because he was Force Sensitive compared to Sabine who wasn’t) seeing it parallel his and Sabine’s. It also shows Kanan understanding that in order for Sabine to open up and accept this role, then he needs to give her a little tough love.

It shows Ezra’s being very understanding that training can difficult if you reluctantly do so in the first place, if you let that fear stop you from doing something you don’t want to do even though it’s the right thing to do.

Hera also understands where Sabine is coming from because again, she understands when family turns their back on you, as that’s exactly what her father did. She also understands that Sabine needs to open up about her past, to let go of her pumped up stubbornness and just grieve for the family that abandoned her.
